Lactation care is fully covered as preventive healthcare under the Affordable Care Act. We participate in multiple insurance plans including Aetna, Independence Blue Cross and Tricare/Humana. Additionally, we accept most other Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans as well as Independence Administrators. Some United Healthcare and Cigna plans may also be covered through The Lactation Network.

If we are not in network with your insurance, you can still receive our support via self-pay rates payable at time of service. An office lactation visit is $150 and a craniosacral fascial therapy visit is $125. We will provide you with a detailed receipt for you to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Sliding scale fees are available for uninsured/income-limited clients and those with medical assistance plans. Please ask us about payment options.

Frequently Asked Questions

A IBCLC can offer expert advice with all things related to breastfeeding, bottle-feeding and pumping. No matter how you feed your little one, an IBCLC is the infant feeding expert who can guide you as your baby grows into toddlerhood and beyond.

An IBCLC is a healthcare professional specializing in the clinical management of breastfeeding and lactation. IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® under the direction of the U.S. National Commission for Certifying Agencies. IBCLCs work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, pediatric offices, public health clinics, and private practice, where care is provided in your home or the consultant’s office in the community. During a lactation consultation appointment, the IBCLC will perform a full lactation assessment, including a complete history of your pregnancy, labor & delivery and early postpartum experiences. The IBCLC will also do an oral assessment of baby and observe a full feeding. Your baby will be weighed before and after feeding (called a “weighted feed”) to assess your baby’s ability to transfer milk and your milk supply. The appointment may also include breast pump flange fitting, pumping instruction and observation of a pumping session. A visit may last anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes, depending on you and your baby’s needs. You will also be given a clear care plan and plan for follow up and support.

Our IBCLCs are well-versed in supporting parents who are exclusively pumping, whether that decision is by necessity or choice. And we fully support your decision to feed your baby in whatever manner you’d like. Birth, Boobs, Babies and Beyond LLC is a judgment-free, supportive space for all parents because pumping is breastfeeding, too!

CFT, short for craniosacral fascial therapy is a very gentle, hands-on modality with powerful, therapeutic effects. CFT and other gentle bodywork can help with tension and restriction in your baby’s body, head, spine and mouth. Untreated, this type of tension can cause latch difficulties, sucking/swallowing issues, problems with bottle-feeding, gas/fussiness, and painful latch for the lactating parent. Nearly every baby is born with body tension because the womb is a tight, compressive space. Also, both vaginal or C-section deliveries can cause additional body tightness and tension as baby makes their exit from womb to Earthside. CFT is ideal for any baby experiencing feeding problems, head turning preferences and/or plagiocephaly (flat head).

I struggled as a first-time mom and had very little support with breastfeeding. Everything was extremely painful for me, and I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. I shed tears during feeds and pumping was awful. Little did I know our daughter had a severe tongue-tie that wasn’t noticed at the birthing center or the pediatrician. When I first saw Karen, she sent me to get it checked and the dentist told me it was so bad he would have come straight from the hospital. In addition to tongue-tie issues, without Karen my pumping journey would not have lasted for the 18 months that it did – The flange sizes I was using were so large that I was dealing with constant bruising, pain and cracking. I am forever grateful for Karen helping me along my breastfeeding journey and would recommend her to everyone. And much to my surprise, Karen’s services were also completely covered by my insurance!
